Enrico began skating at the age of six with Sportivi Ghiacco Roana (Roana ice sports association) and used to train at
the near Busa Fonda di Gallio natural ice rink.
He had raced for SGR for sixteen years, then he joined Fiamme Oro, the State Police Sports Team, which is still his current team.
Five times Italian Champion (from 2003 to 2007), bronze medal in 2005-2006 World Cup (1500m), he won out at Innsbruck Winter
University Games 2005 and at Hamar European Championships 2006, before winning three memorable medals at Turin Olympic Winter
Games 2006 (gold in 1500m and in team pursuit, bronze in 5000m).
In 2007 Enrico won three gold medals at Turin Winter University Games (1000m, 1500m, team pursuit), the silver medal at
Heerenveen All Around World Championships and at Collalbo European Championships, he reached the second place in 1500m and
the third place in 5000/10000m World Cup rankings (the only skater able to gain two podium in two different distances), and
he won the silver medal in 5000m at Salt Lake World Championships, Single Distances.
On 10 November, Salt Lake City, Enrico began the new season with the World Record in 5000m. The record last exactly one week: on 17 November, in Calgary, Enrico set the new Italian record with 6:06.42, but the Dutch skater Sven Kramer get the world mark back.
Season 2007/2008 ended with the bronze medal at Kolomna European Championships, the bronze medal in the 5000/10000m final classification of the World Cup, and three brilliant silver medals at Nagano World Single Distance Championships (5000m, 10000m and Team pursuit).
