Enrico Fabris

Summer news
25/06/10
The Italian Speedskating summer begins with a couple of surprising news: a new coach and summer training on ice! Gianni Romme, the Dutch Olympic champion and one of the all-time best long distance skaters, is the man chosen by the Federation to lead the Italian team to new motivations and results after Vancouver's disappointment. The other important news is that this summer Enrico and his teammates (Marco Cignini, Luca Stefani, Matteo Anesi, Chiara Simionato, Jan Daldossi, Oscar De Ciantis, Mirko Giacomo Nenzi e Daniele Berlanda) will be in Heerenveen from 26 June to 10 July, so they can already train on ice without waiting August or September as in the past years.

Season ends before World Championships
16/03/10
Backache: that was the last thing Enrico needed to finish the season after his bad Olympic experience. Last saturday he ran only 5k in the World Cup Finals, which many champions deserted too in view of this week's races. World Championships will take place in Heerenveen from 19 to 21 March, but unfortunately Enrico won't take part in the last competition of 2009/2010. So his 6th place in 5000/10000 and the 5th place in Team Pursuit World Cup final rankings are the last results of a season that, after the beautiful European silver, promised to give better satistactions. Now Enrico is back home in the Asiago plateau where, with the love of his family and of his friends and supporters, he will get the time and relax he needs to think about his future.

Eight!
08/03/10
Enrico is the Italian all around champion again...and it's the eighth time! Last Sunday and Saturday the Italian Speedskating All Around Championships took place in Baselga di Pinè. Enrico won all distances: 500m, 1500m, 5k, 10k. Luca Stefani and Marco Cignigni finished 2nd and 3rd.

"It's time to turn over a new leaf"
27/02/10
It won't be easy to forget Vancouver's Olympics. Enrico ends the XXI Winter Games with a bad 6th place in Team Pursuit too. Enrico Fabris, Matteo Anesi an Luca Stefani were eliminated by the Canadian team in the quarterfinals yesterday, and by Korea in final C this evening (with Ermanno Ioriatti replacing Stefani). Canada won the gold medal, Usa won silver and The Netherlands took the bronze with the new Olympic record. Enrico is on his way back home now, without any medals, conscious of his mistakes but already focusing on Heerenveen World Cup finals and World Championships, where he wants to end the season in top form again.

Enrico withdraws from Olympic 10000
24/02/10
Vancouver's XXI Winter Olympic Games really seem to be bewitched for Enrico Fabris. Yesterday Enrico withdrew from the 10000m race because of nausea. He woke up feeling sick but he went to Richmond Olympic Oval anyway, hoping he'd feel better once on the ice but did not, so he decided to give up hoping to recover in view of Friday's Team Pursuit quarter finals.
South Korean speedskater Lee Seung-hoon won the gold medal after the record holder Sven Kramer was disqualified for an unbelievable improper lane switch. Ivan Skobrev from Russia won the silver medal while Bob De Jong from The Netherlands took the bronze.

Another bad day in Vancouver
21/02/10
An amazing Mark Tuitert of the Netherlands is the new 1500m Olympic champion. Yesterday Enrico lost the title won in Turin four years ago, finishing only 10th on Richmond Olympic oval in 1:47.02. He started rather slow, but he hadn't been able to regain positions in the end as usual. Tuitert won in 1:45.67, Shani Davis of Usa took the silver in 1:46.10 while Havard Bokko of Norway won the bronze in 1:46.13.
Unfortunately, it's another wrong race to forget before Enrico concentrates on 10k tuesday and Team Pursuit next 26 February.

Vancouver 2010: a bitter beginning
13/02/10
Certainly, Enrico did not expect to finish 7th today in the race that gave him his first Olympic medal four years ago in Turin, but things didn't go well for him in these Vancouver's 5000m. He ran the penultimate pair with Russian Ivan Skobrev: the two skated side by side and very fast for almost the whole race, but unfortunately Enrico's action lost power in the final laps and he finished in 6:20.53. The favourite Dutch skater Sven Kramer won the opening race of the speedskating schedule setting a new Olympic record ( 6:14.60). Lee Seung-hoon of South Korea was second in 6:16.95 and Ivan Skobrev was third in 6:18.05. Let's wait and see what will happen next saturday in 1500m, when Enrico will try to gain revenge and defend his Turin's gold.

"It was the best 5k I raced in my career"
13/12/09
Enrico is back! 6:06.06 is the amazing time and personal best that Enrico's just set in Salt Lake City winning 5000m in the fifth World Cup Event. "That was the real me", said smiling Enrico at the end of the race. At last he found motivation and strength within himself and now he's on top form again. Enrico set another personal best and Italian record yesterday in 1500m (1:43.48): he finished 6th in the World record race won by Shani Davis. Tonight he'll lead Matteo Anesi and Luca Stefani in the last Team Pursuit race before the Olympic games, trying to get the qualification and the opportunity to defend their gold medal in Vancouver next February.
